Christen Owen is a certified veterinary technician who specializes in lab animal medicine, focusing on large and small animal analgesia/anaesthesia and overall animal well being. With her experience from Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University, she is well-versed in IACUC, USDA, AALAC, and AVMA regulations, policies, and procedures. She has achieved multiple certifications including registered laboratory animal technologist through AALAS and Surgical Research Anesthetist through the Academy of Surgical Research. In 2022, she accepted a position as Training Specialist at Brown University within the Center of Animal Resources and Education under the direction of Dr. Lara Helwig, DVM, DACLAM. In this role, Christen has implemented training strategies to improve animal handling, rodent surgery, and laboratory animal welfare. As a certified veterinary technician, she is passionate about teaching the importance of animal care and understanding in order to achieve key biomedical research and discovery.
